This was a charming read! I was filled with warmth during the familial-centric scenes, because despite their secrets, they seemed really warm and genuine with one another. I also loved the guarded and mysterious Avery. She almost seemed other-worldly sometimes, which added to her intrigue and appeal. It was easy to see why Jason was so enamored by her! Jason, too, was interesting, because he wasn't your typical popular stud. He had deeper layers and feelings, and dark secrets of his own. If you love YA with deep characters, you should give this a try!
I haven't really picked up a teen novel since I was about sixteen myself, which is why I wondered how well this one would play out. However, this is no ordinary teen fiction novel. This one has a twist I didn't expect because to me, it started out as any other teen fiction. The twist gets better and more mysterious as the book goes on. Shamika Lindsay does quite well at keeping you guessing and your attention. All teens and some young adults should buy this book!
This book is a masterpiece of suspenseful writing, underlining sobering realities which many of us face in our lives
